Broken Bonds

Healing Relationship Betrayals with Emotionally Focused Therapy

Relationship betrayal (sexual, emotional, financial, or relational) often brings couples into therapy in acute crisis. Even experienced clinicians can feel overwhelmed guiding partners from rupture toward repair.

This training walks step-by-step through the stages and steps of EFT, showing how attachment injury repair unfolds as an evidence-based process. You'll learn how to work effectively with highly escalated couples while also supporting your own regulation and resilience in the emotional intensity of betrayal work.

The format emphasizes moment-to-moment clinical decision-making in betrayal repair. Through focused discussion, video case demonstrations, and consultation, we'll highlight the therapist interventions that restore safety, organize a coherent betrayal narrative, and support the renewal of secure bonds.

Key Learning Outcomes

Participants will learn to:

  • Conceptualize breaches of trust as attachment injuries that disrupt emotional safety and connection.

  • Apply clear, practical strategies for working with highly reactive couples following betrayal.

  • Use the stages and steps of EFT to guide recovery from relational betrayal.

  • Identify and intervene in key change moments through video-based case examples and live discussion.
